Around the World in 80 Days
Review of “Around the World in 80 Days” by Jules Verne ( Phileas Fogg’s global adventure novel )
The story “Around the World in 80 Days” by Jules Verne is one of the best Adventure Travel Stories that will take you around the earth through the most renowned places. This novel was written by the French author Jules Verne in 1873 and this novel had also the title as Englishman Phileas Fogg, who decided to travel around the world in 80 days with betting. Of course, it’s a fantastic narrative, but it also has a benefit: it enables you to study various destinations and cultures.
The main character, therefore Phileas Fogg, is a very formal and systematic person who runs his life like an arrangement. He is a man of great financial means, but he is not outgoing, or even active; he goes through most of his days in the Reform Club in London. This is after he makes the unlikely suggestion to fellow club members that he intends to travel around the world within 80 days because of improvements in facilities of transport. His companions do not believe this and Fogg takes £20,000 that he would complete this almost incredible task. He then launches himself into this expedition the same day he hires Passepartout, with barely any preparation done.
The whole journey is from London to Paris, Egypt, India, Hong Kong, Yokohama, and San Francisco, America. On their journey, they experience several challenges such as hi-jacks, near accidents and RFIs, and natural disasters. The first is that Fogg is hunted by a detective named Fix who thinks that Fogg is a robber of a bank in India. Fix accompanies him traveling around the globe as the main character’s goal is to avoid getting arrested by him.
In the whole novel, we do not see any flare-up of the temper of Fogg. It is always possible to find a way how to cope with what he is confronted with. On the other hand, Passepartout says funny things on this show and brings yucky humor. His faithfulness to Fogg and his courage are the characteristics that the readers can love in the story. Among the most memorable sequences is when Fogg saves a young Indian woman named Aouda, who plays an important role in the tale.
The journey to the places that Fogg visits is a strong part of the book and the author paints detailed pictures of them. Most of these places he had never visited himself but through research and the kind of imagery he possessed, the places became real to him. There is a feeling of the world’s geographic distribution and cultural differences while at the same time, the story takes place in the nineteenth century.
‘Around the World in 80 Days’ is an amazing story, that has been pleasing its readers for a hundred. Something that may build and underscore the determination and ability to leverage what is available to succeed. It also majors in different aspects such as friendship, loyalty, and perseverance. Thus, having risked all the courage and wit Phileas Fogg overcomes all the difficulties.
Lastly, “Around the World in 80 Days” is an exciting novel stuffed full of full of adventurous passion and the human desire to explore the world. The overall and quite simplistic plot of the book and the bright cast of characters that can be found therein make the book a perfect read regardless of one’s age. Everybody would get interested in reading this book if he/she likes travel narrations or anyone who wants to read a book with thrill, entertainment, and glamour.
