The Mysterious Island
Book Review: The Mysterious Island ( Island survival mystery adventure novel )
This work is an adventure novel of Jules Verne devoted to mystery and survival on a deserted island and the results of scientific experiments Written in 1874 the book is based on the adventure of five men who steal a hot air balloon to escape the Civil War prison camp. The story is set on an unspecified island to which they are transported by a storm that threatens to steer the ship off course. The novel is a wonderful story of survival and exploration; it is one of Verne’s most creative, as well.
The plot revolves around five characters who are engineers, journalists, sailors, students, and servants who are all five are named – Cyrus Smith, Gideon Spilett, Pencroff, Harbert, and Neb. She and he end up alone on a deserted island with nobody else here, no food, water, or shelter. But once they set off to look for it they learn that the island has many mysteries hidden deep within them. Situations and occurrences beyond understanding and spooky, give them a feeling that someone or something is prolonging their existence. This common feeling of mystique makes the readers stay absorbed, as each resolution or setback exists as a chapter in the volume.
The people surviving on that island demonstrate a high level of cooperation and endurance. I will also go through many characters who used their intellect to help them survive; the main focus on Cyrus Smith who is a scientific and ingenious character who assists them in their chances of living. By his leadership, the group can build a miniature society on the island. They create even basic instruments up to a telegraph system with an exclusive dependence on natural resources. Science and invention are perceived through Verne and therefore make the story realistic and inspiring. This is because the descriptions of how they construct things and use science make the reader feel so proud of people.
While the two are stranded on the island, they get so many vices from the wild animals, and difficult weather conditions among others. Every time, they collaborate to come up with solutions to these problems, and this, in effect, creates the impression that; ‘’Teamwork is more crucial as knowledge in as far as living is concerned.’’ To enforce his lessons, which include the values of courage and friendship, and the willpower to fight against obstacles, Verne utilizes these trials in his novel.
At this point the secrets of the island increase. This group finds the marks of the not known animals and gets together with unseen helpers whenever they need it. For instance, they come across a chest full of equipment and necessities, then a power saves them from pirates. Later they discover that they aren’t the only people on the island. Another character with whom one can be met in one of the novels Verne, Captain Nemo, is seen observing them. It ties the Mysterious Island with 20,000 leagues under the sea and introduces a very interesting relationship between the two works.
The Mystery Island does not only point the reader to the adventure tale but is also a testimony to the spirit of science, brains, and tenacity. Jules Verne’s passion for discovery comes out making readers daydream about the possibilities of the human mind. Yes, this book was published more than a hundred years ago, however, its major points are valid in today’s society. It is a message that speaks that once informed and united, man can do great things no matter the going rate.
Thus, I would like to emphasize that The Mysterious Island is a bright and interesting book that children and adults would find debris and terrifying experiences that help to have a better understanding of the world around, meet. What links all six books together is that these six are not only an exciting simplified survival and mystery-seeking story, but the story of two kids defeating the odds becoming friends, and reaching for the stars. If you have an interest in classic literature, science, or adventure this book is still a worthy read and helps to demonstrate why Jules Verne is rightly considered one of the great figures of this type of literature.
