Book Review: “The Granite Key” by N.S. Wikarski

As a historical mystery, *The Arkana Archaeology Adventure* introduces readers to *The Granite Key* by N.S. Wikarski has elements of a modern, adventurous quest in search of ancient treasures. The novel succeeds at integrating a passion for archaeology with a heavy focus on Egyptian rituals and hundreds of years of history and packs the story with some magic to build the mystery.

In the middle of the boat, there is a key story about the Arkana, the Secret Society whose mission is to protect the historical artifacts from being used for either evil or disappearing. Before proceeding further, Wikarski accustoms readers to Cassie Forsythe, an academic working on her graduate degree as well as the female protagonist of this big massive historical drama. When Cassie loses her sister in quite a tragic way, she realizes that there is more to her sister’s death than can be imaginable plus it opens up dynamite that could blow the whole world to threads.

The detail in the world-building is one of the novel’s assets: the world is quite recognizable, with a hint of fantasy tightly interwoven into the concept of archaeology. A dramatic goal is always engaging and Arkana’s mission is an inviting, unique way to see something even if it is clouded by uncertainty of what exactly the group guards. There seems to be much research done by Wikarski and good detailing especially while incorporating historical aspects of artifacts. The nature in which the author combines these sorts of elements of academia with such high-concept action makes for a thrilling narrative throughout the series.

As for the protagonist, Cassie, anyone can become this girl, and people want her to stay alive at any cost. What she becomes a participant in is the fight for survival, grief, and the discovery of secret relations of her own family with the Arkana’s world. In terms of her character growth, the show is realistic and hard to predict based on her gaining new knowledge about herself and the world of archaeology. Through curiosity, vulnerability, and determination, Wikarski adds layers to her/through her curiosity, vulnerability, and determination that Wikarski adds layers to her.

Even the main cast of the plot has many interesting characters, including members of the Arkana, each of whom has different character traits and qualifications. Together with Cassie, they enrich the overall experience and develop the plot in quite an unplanned manner. Also, the antagonist in the book whose actions are not clear, as well as the motives, gives the whole quest a feeling of importance and danger.

Nevertheless, some of the readers can consider the pacing problem It occurs when historical information outweighs the events which are worth to be in the focus of readers’ attention. It does add a lot more depth to the tale and should be welcome by most readers, although at the same time, it can make the reading a little more tedious where those who prefer action-packed thrillers are concerned. Still, it’s this depth that becomes intriguing for all historical mystery enthusiasts.

Therefore, “The Granite Key” lays a good foundation for a great adventure series; with a powerhouse character, accurate prehistoric setting, and mystery-adventure twist. Wikarski’s adherence to the historical authenticity along with a hint of the fairy-tale has readers anticipating the next portion of adventures in the series.
